Barham House Nursing Home is a gracious Grade II listed country house located in the picturesque village of Barham, in Kent. The city of Canterbury is just 8 miles away and the towns of Folkestone and Dover along with the beautiful Kent coastline are within easy reach.
A beautifully furnished reception hall makes residents and visitors alike feel relaxed and at-home. One notable feature of the house is the striking Victorian conservatory, from which residents can access the pretty enclosed gardens where the lawns are edged with elegant trees and traditional, classic flower beds.
Barham House hosts a comprehensive activities programme which is aimed to be stimulating and therapeutic as well as enjoyable. Activities include art therapy, one-to-one computer sessions, games, quizzes, bingo and personal beauty treatments. The home has its own vehicle with wheelchair access, for personalised trips.
We also encourage residents to continue with personal hobbies and integrate these into their personal activity plans.
We operate an open visiting policy and visiting friends and relatives of all ages are always made welcome.
Barham House Nursing Home has 17 single and 3 shared bedrooms, some of which have en-suite facilities. These are located across 2 floors and a mezzanine level, accessible via a lift. Bedrooms are light and spacious and furnished to a high standard. All are equipped with a television and a 24-hour nurse call system, as well as other safety features including smoke alarms and radiator covers.
In addition to the attractive gardens, facilities at the home include a large lounge area, several other smaller sitting areas around the home and a quiet room.
Appetising meals from a varied menu are prepared by a cook, who is also happy to provide for any special dietary needs and adapt menus to suit personal tastes.
We want residents to feel very much at home and part of the village community. We encourage them to manage their own daily routines wherever possible. Although nursing care and companionship are readily available, the friendly atmosphere at Barham House ensures that everyone is able to continue their daily life with personal privacy and dignity.
Residents are the focal point of our service provision. We ensure that they are involved in the planning and delivery of services as far as is practical, promoting their right to dignity, privacy, choice and independence.
Staff at Barham House are fully committed to raising the standards of nursing care for the elderly person. Our nursing philosophy is aimed at delivering high-quality care whilst providing comprehensive services and facilities. The nursing team at Barham House adopts a rehabilitation and re-enablement culture using a person-centred approach to care, which is supported by our local GP and community matron service and other care services as needed.
Residents can also access the services of a hairdresser, barber and chiropodist on a regular basis. The local Church of England clergy offer strong support to the home and religious services are held in-house on a regular basis.
