Gables (Wrotham)

Introduction

The Gables (Wrotham) is a large converted Edwardian house in a stunning location on the edge of the Kent Downs. Although enjoying a rural outlook and magnificent panoramic views, The Gables (Wrotham) is only about a mile from the M20/M26 and 2 miles from the local villages of Borough Green and Wrotham, both of which are served by busses, trains and taxis.

The gardens are landscaped, so residents and visitors can enjoy the views when weather permits. The decked areas are well suited to wheelchair users.

The kitchen provides a good variety of traditional meals prepared on-site, with choices. The cook will prepare alternatives on request and any special dietary requirements can also be catered for.

Activities & Social

A wide variety of activities is organised for residents, recognising their diversity of needs, personalities and social backgrounds. Participation is actively encouraged but remains at the individual resident's choice. Activities include various crafts, painting, clay modelling, bingo, games and reminiscence.

We also arrange trips out to the coast, Bluewater Shopping Centre and to local attractions, as well as entertainment such as singers, a magician and touring theatres in the home.

We operate an open visiting policy and visiting friends and relatives of all ages are always made welcome. It's often enjoyable for a resident to celebrate their own or a family member's birthday or other special event too. Families are welcome to take their loved ones out, or, by prior arrangement with the manager, come in for a meal.

Accommodation

The Gables (Wrotham) Nursing Home is being modernised and expanded and will soon accommodate 37 residents in both single and shared rooms, some of which are en-suite. Rooms are located over 3 floors with a passenger lift for easy access. Bedrooms are served by a call bell system, enabling residents to summon help 24 hours a day.

Residents can relax in spacious, well appointed lounges and enjoy views over the newly landscaped garden when taking meals in the pleasant new dining room. In the garden are decked areas suitable for wheelchair access and raised flower beds for residents who wish to participate in tending to plants.

Around-the-clock care is provided by both registered nurses and care assistants, most of whom are NVQ qualified. A comprehensive programme of induction and ongoing training ensures we maintain the high standards of holistic, individualised care that have gained The Gables (Wrotham) its excellent reputation.

Person Centred Approach

Residents are the focal point of our service provision. We ensure that they are fully involved in the planning and delivery of services, promoting their right to dignity, privacy, choice and independence.

Meetings are held regularly to seek residents' views on a wide range of topics including the menu, upcoming events and trips, and to ensure that residents have the opportunity to voice any concerns.

GPs from Borough Green Medical Practice visit the home twice weekly and residents also have regular access to a visiting hairdresser and chiropodist. Holy Communion is held at the home once a month and ministry from other denominations can be arranged on request.
