We understand the importance of a warm, welcoming and relaxing living environment where residents can feel fully ‘at home’. Our goal is to provide high levels of comfort, support, convenience, and person centred care within every home. This enables residents to continue to enjoy their senior years, maintain their dignity and, as far as possible under individual circumstances, retain their independence.
In a Stargate home, each resident is recognised as an individual. We aim to create an environment which can meet every individual’s needs and preferences – socially, emotionally, spiritually and physically.
Facilities: Each home is individual. Some are purpose built and others are tastefully converted buildings with a long heritage. Facilities vary but always include TV lounges, visiting/quiet rooms and dining room. Mobility facilities include lifts and chair-lifts, hand rails and wheelchair access. Most rooms have en-suite facilities and in some locations private telephone line and TV point. Rooms are generally for single occupancy but in some homes there are double rooms for couples, close relations or friends who wish to share. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with ornaments, photos and other personal possessions to ensure they feel at home.
Healthcare Services: The services provided differ slightly from home to home, but residents at every home are able to access a full range of healthcare professionals such as GP and nurses, optician, dietician, chiropodist, specialist nursing, physiotherapy and occupational therapy. Hair care and other personal wellbeing services are also available.
Social Activities: A range of activities to suit all personalities and preferences is on offer at each home, although what is organised may vary from home to home. Our aim is to ensure that residents can enjoy a variety of daily and special activities, in groups or one-to-one, whichever is their preference. Nobody is obliged to participate if they do not feel like it.
Staff: Homes are staffed as far as possible by people who live locally and understand the local culture and heritage. All staff conform to the national standards criteria and are subject to CRB checks prior to starting work with Stargate. We support continual professional development and encourage staff to enhance their professional qualifications whilst working with Stargate.
Moving to a Stargate Home: Referrals for new residents can come from a number of sources including social services, local PCTs and private individuals/relatives. Each home conducts its own detailed confidential assessment prior to admission and puts in place a transition plan, to ensure the move is as comfortable and free of stress as it can be. Wherever possible the potential resident will dictate the pace of their admission. Information from the assessment is used to determine a consistent approach to the care given to the new resident, via a care plan, supported by a risk assessment where appropriate.
